It was around the time of my sons fifth birthday that he was diagnosed as having asthma which made him wheeze and gasp for air after being physically active and sometimes after his bath. We thought perhaps that the steam from the hot water was affecting his lungs but the doctor said it due to the asthma and that this would be a lifelong problem for him. I did not want my boy to suffer from this on a daily basis so the doctor prescribed an asthma inhaler for him to be able to control is breathing. The inhaler was in fact a steroid inhaler which is the common form of medication for asthma sufferers.

The steroid inhaler allows the lung muscles to relax enough to open the pathway more which allows a sufficient amount of oxygen to pass through the airways. The steroid inhaler was a god send and changed my sons life dramatically which in turn enabled my wife and I to sleep soundly at night without worrying about a midnight asthma attack. We are one of the lucky ones and 7 years on now that my boy is turning 12 he is a picture of health and a very capable sports person. Nothing stops him now from doing what he likes because he always has his inhaler with him like a guardian angel.
